Please listen to this great YouTube post by Evangelist Tony Miano who is associated with Way of the Master Ministries. My thoughts exactly. I used to engage in arguements with agnostics, athiests, secular humanists, New Ager’s, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses and all the others but my job is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ not to argue or negotiate with those who do not believe in the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and His Son, Jesus Christ. Only God can save by the power of the Holy Spirit through the holy and perfect word of God. “The law of the Lord is perfect in converting the soul” Psalm 19:7. And only He can convert the soul to the saving grace of His Son, Jesus Christ. It is my job to preach the gospel in spirit and in truth, not to argue with those who are lost. My prayer is that as workers go out preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ that the Lord bless this by reaping a great harvest from all those who do not believe. Today is the day of salvation…if the Holy Spirit is calling you, do not hesitate, repent and believe in Jesus Christ and you WILL be saved! We are heralds, we do not negotiate!

Should Chistian’s Protest?

A little over a year ago, I wrote a blog about advocacy and protesting as a response to the persecution facing our brothers and sisters around the world. In the last month, we have seen a number of case of violence against believers in India, Pakistan, Egypt, and Nigeria in particular. I have been struck by the call to public protests in each of these countries. As we approach the first anniversary of the terrible eruption of violence against Christian in Orissa on August 24, I am sure that more protests will be held there and abroad, demanding protection and equal rights for religious minorities in India. This is to be understood and even applauded although I do wonder from time to time if sometimes these events don’t actually result in heightened tensions in local communities and may not be exactly the best way to respond to violence especially when I see angry faces, shouting, and the waving of fists in the air. Somehow I just have a hard time seeing Jesus at such an event. But maybe that’s just me.

Don’t misunderstand me. I am not ruling out the value of public protests across the board. But for many groups here and abroad, it tends to be their first and primary response. The underlying assumption seems to be that the solution to the “persecution problem” lies in the hands of government. Now, there is a “Constantinian” presumption if there ever was one! For the Bible believing Christian, we know that persecution is an inevitable, normal, and expected result of following Christ faithfully. Hence, we should urge government to act justly towards all of its citizens, but we should not expect that the ultimate solution of religious persecution lies in their hands.

But if we are going to protest, either in a rally or through advocacy, I do believe that we need to keep these words in mind that I wrote a year ago:

VOMC founder, Richard Wurmbrand, once spoke at a Christian rally. He asked those in attendance why they were protesting against those whom they opposed. Rather, he said, they should be inviting them into their homes for a warm meal. Their friendship would speak louder than bullhorns.

Jesus did give His followers a most unusual command on how to deal with enemies; they were to love them and do good to them (Matthew 5:44). Not exactly the most strategic way of doing advocacy, some might argue. But advocacy, as important as it is, is not the first call of the Christian. Yes, we are to raise a voice on behalf of our suffering brothers and sisters, but not at the cost of neglecting the call to actively love those who seek our harm.

Our letters of protest, our blogs, our rallies; they must not be marked by hatred or a lack of respect. This is a fine line that is so easy to cross. It seems to me that it would be better not to protest if we cannot hold on to love and concern for those who seek to take away our freedoms and those of our family around the world.

I thank God that one of the priorities of The Voice of the Martyrs is our commitment to reach out to those who persecute the Church with the Good News of Jesus Christ. In projects in the Middle East, Colombia, Sri Lanka, and elsewhere, we are working with local believers in supplying them with literature specifically geared for reaching those who are opposed to the gospel. And to the glory of God, many are responding to this act of love with faith.

In short, let’s be sure that in our protesting that we do not neglect the weightier responsibilities of loving, praying, and reaching out to persecutors. Of course, we must not be naive about this and think that any of this will be easy. But I believe this is the response that God will ultimately hold us responsible for.

Overcoming Fear in Evangelism

The following is an excerpt from a posting on ”The Lawman Chronicles” a blog hosted by evangelist Tony Miano (Living Waters Ministry) titled The Sweet Taste of Swallowing Fear. The post addresses the common fears of Christians have in participating in obedience to evangelism, Tony’s own fear in evangelizing in his own neighborhood and how he overcame his fear:

The Sweet Taste of Swallowing Fear

I am regularly blessed with opportunities to share words of encouragement with brothers and sisters in Christ who honestly admit to me that evangelism scares them. Oh, the level of fear varies from one person to another. But how these dear brothers and sisters in Christ articulate their fears is fairly consistent, one with another.

I will often ask the person with whom I’m speaking to verbalize their list of fears. The most common fear expressed to me are: the fear of not being able to answer a question; the fear of misquoting Scripture; the fear of misrepresenting the gospel; the fear of ridicule; the fear of forfeiting relationships; and yes, the fear of physical harm or even death.

Once they’ve articulated their fears, I will ask the person to mentally list their fears in one of two columns–”Me” and “Them.” More often than not, the person quickly realizes that their fears have little or nothing to do with the lost and everything to do with them. Their fears are an expression of a need for self-preservation. Their fears have very little to do with love for the lost, and much more (too much) to do with the love of self.

I go on to explain that evangelism is about obedience and love–obedience to and love for Jesus Christ, and a genuine love for those who are lost and bound for hell. And if, as Christians, we are going to evangelize a lost and dying world because of our love for God and love for people, then we must allow that obedience and love to swallow our fears.

Well, a couple of days ago the Lord gave me an opportunity to heed and apply my own counsel.

I was driving home from the North Hollywood Metro Station. Amanda and I had spent a couple hours there “street fishing” for Todd Friel and Wretched Radio. It was a quiet ride home. Amanda was off somewhere thinking about whatever 14-year-old girls think about; and I was contemplating what I would do the rest of the afternoon to further the gospel. As I’ve done almost every day for the last month, I knew I would be on a street corner somewhere in town holding my cross.

As I thought of the various corners where I had stood with the cross, a thought entered my mind that I immediately found troubling. I quickly tried to dismiss the thought–coming up with excuse after excuse for why the idea was not a good one. But I couldn’t shake the thought.

The more I thought about it, the more my anxiety increased. And what was the thought?

“I should stand on my street, in my neighborhood, with the cross.”

For almost a month, I have daily stood with the cross somewhere in my community; but each location has been a mile or so away from my home. You would think that if I’m crazy enough (at least I’m sure that’s how I’m considered by some) to stand on a corner of a busy street with a cross, doing the same on a quieter residential street should be no problem. Right?

Wrong.

These are the fears that came to mind:

1) My neighbors are going to drive down this street. I will finally be labeled the “Christian nut-job” in my neighborhood.
2) The Homeowners’ Association will call a special meeting. The topic: What to do about Tony Miano and his cross?
3) I’m going to have run-ins with the security guards who patrol the neighborhood–some of whom are moonlighting off-duty officers.
4) Mahria and the girls won’t be able to show their face in the neighborhood.
5) A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown. I’m going to be hated more, here, than anywhere else in my community.
6) I’m going to have my first negative contact with my brethren on the Sheriff’s Department, from the very station where I spent most of my career.
7) And the wildest fear of them all: The contractors who are going to repipe our community will see me standing on the corner and they will retaliate by doing a poor job repiping my home. I know. I know. Ridiculous. Absurd. Most of our fears are.

Do you notice the theme in my expressed fears? They have everything to do with me, and nothing whatsoever to do with the lost. My fears were rooted in self-love and not a love for God and a love for others.

I confessed my sin to God and asked for His forgiveness. I determined to stand on a corner in my community. Was I still nervous? You bet. But I had to do it, now.

Even though I knew what I had to do, it still took a while for me to muster the courage to do it. You see, another thought had come to my mind. “If I do this here, then that means I will have to walk my cross through the neighborhood to get to the corner where I would stand.” Yikes!

Being a residential area, there is far-less traffic on my street than on the streets where I usually stand with the cross. So, I wanted to be strategic about where I stood so that as many people as possible would see the cross. I walked to my car and removed the cross from the trunk. I walked north on my street about 1/10th mile to the corner. I headed west a couple hundred feet to a corner where not only people driving into my neighborhood would see the cross, but where other motorists heading to and from other places would see it.

And there I stood. Praying. Wondering. Waiting.

America’s Slide to Socialism

The below image contains a comment made by socialist Norman Mattoon Thomas, Socialist Party candidate for president in the 30′ & 40′s. His comments made in 1944 are ringing true today. America would not willingly accept socialism but as we see today with our liberal Democratic leadership, they are willing to slowly chip away at true democracy, capitalism and our republican form of government until we slide into socialism. Is it too late for the people to wake? Maybe. Maybe not. As our country leaves the alter of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and prefers false god’s as the Israelites did many centuries before, the Lord will leave this nation to its own “reprobate mind” (See Romans 1:28-32) and then may God have mercy on this country and the people for allowing such a slide not only in our political and economic form of government and society but also in our committment to judeo-Christian values, character and ethics – and mostly the Word of God.

Routing Unbelief with Faith Over Reason

Well, it’s been a while since I posted on my MTC blog. I’ve been rather busy trying to prioritize my time and what I need to focus my energies on; – what ministries; church and other Christian ministries; TLC (The Lost Cause Ministries), VOM (Voice of the Martyrs), Ligonier Ministries, etc., Christian books; fiction, non-fiction, theological & evangelical – Spurgeon, Lewis, Sproul, etc., Internet sites; political and social; Twitter, Facebook, Digg and all the other all the the myriad print and Internet resources that have consumed me over the past several months not to mention my work at the DA’s Office (just finished a huge public integrity fraud/abuse case – four month investigation). I’m exhausted but I believe I have come to prioritize my life into the things that really matter and the first and foremost subject of my affection must be the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is causing a work in me, although I feel that recently I have failed the Lord and in my weakness haven’t been “fishing” as I know I should – that has and is going to change. Recently, my church, The Village Church via the Eldership has recognized the need for public evangelism and is supporting efforts by some who are being lead to organize, train and equip those who will be taking the gospel to our community. The Lord Jesus must be my first priorit y – my first love and it is my prayer that by the power of the Holy Spirit, He will use me and others with this calling to futher his kingdom. More on this later…

In reading Surgeon’s book ‘ – “Soul Winner”, I ran accross this excerpt that I would like to share; words that impressed upon my soul by the Spirit:

Soul Winner – Obstacles to Soul Winning – Chapter 5

I believe you will rout unbelief by your faith rather than by your reason. By you belief and your living up to your conviction of the truth, you will do more good than by any argument, however strong it may be, There is a friend who sits to hear me generally every Sabbath. “What do you think?” he said to me one day. “You are my only link with better things; but you are a terrible man, in my estimation, for you do not have the slightest sympathy with me.” I replied, “No, I do not; or, rather, I do not have the least sympathy with your unbelief.” “That make me cling to you, for I fear that I will always remain as I am. But when I see your calm faith and how God blesses you in exercising it, and know what you accomplish through the power of that faith, I say to myself, ‘Jack, you are a fool.”‘ I said to him, “You are quite right in that verdict, and the sooner you come to my way of thinking, the better, for nobody can be a bigger fool that the man who does not believe in God.”

So I advise you to fight unbelief with belief, falsehood with the truth, and never to cut and pare down the Gospel to try to make it fit in with the follies and fancies of men.

Prayer – Great and glorious Father in heaven, Lord and Savior Jesus and precious Holy Spirit of God, place a great passion in my heart and in the hearts of those you call to be bold in presenting the gospel of truth to a fallen world – in spirit and in truth – to the honor of Jesus Christ, my Savior and King and to the glory of God the Father. In Jesus name – Amen.
